Managed a couple of 20 minute runs on Tuesday and Wednesday without too much discomfort, so feeling rather happy. It has been a long 14 weeks without exercise so that sensation of starting again and feeling out of breath after 2 minutes of exercise was very welcome.
Crashed back down to earth on Thursday with the results of my MRI scan, which proved inconclusive!! Had a session of physiotherapy and have had my knee taped up to stop the patella from moving laterally. Going up and down stairs is an issue but getting the hang of it. Really thought I was starting the long slow road back to fitness, but looks like I might have to wait maybe another week or two.
Sorry for not blogging for a little while, there hasn't been much to report injury-wise, until now....?
Tried a little 2 laps around the block effort on Monday night, can't believe how bad I felt in terms of being unfit, but I loved it. Felt really unfit and my lungs were screaming, but this is what I've been waiting 3 months to feel. Didn't have any real discomfort from my knee so felt quite positive.
Went to see the knee specialist yesterday morning and I'm being sent for a scan but he didn't seem to think there was any major issue (i.e needing surgery) so pleased with that. Managed another 4 laps of the track last night before the club training session and no real problems so fingers crossed that the great comeback is on!!
Not making any progress with my patella tendonitis I'm afraid. Booked in to see the doctor on Wednesday to see if I can be referred for a scan. Wearing my Nike compression socks most of the time to promote blood flow to the area, every little helps. Fingers crossed, as I'm desperate to get back running
Hoping that there might be light at the end of the tunnel regarding my knee problem. Haven't felt anything in the past few days so will try a couple of laps jog this evening at the club and see where I'm at!
Still struggling with the patella tendonitis I'm afraid, so no sign of a return to running in the near future. Went down to the Gloucester AC circuit training session last night and was astonished at how many kids were down there! Great to see so many working hard under the coaching of Garry Hunter and Bob Purcell. There wasn't enough space for me to hobble round so went home and did some exercises there instead (honest!).
Second round of the Gloucestershire XC League at Pittville Park in Cheltenham this coming Saturday, gutted I'm not able to compete. Nice little course with a few twists and turns and a stream crossing, which as a steeplechaser would be just to my liking! Hoping to be back and flying in the New Year if not before...
