Got a hill session tonight at the club, legs a bit stiff from a tough grass session on Tuesday. Managed a steady 36.45min run y'day evening, felt pretty rough throughout but glad I got through it in one piece. That's 16 miles so far this week, my biggest mileage since early October!!! How's everyone else getting on?

Summer starts here!

Summer season has officially started at Gloucester AC! The juniors are back on the track, which means the seniors head out onto the field for training. A creative session from Dom was set up, 250m reps around a loop with diminishing recovery as each set wore on, 60s after the first rep, 45s after the second rep all the way down to 15s recovery. That rep really hurt.

Managed 3 sets of 5 reps and although both knees were grumbling a little, I seem ok today. Our blossoming steeplechase group also managed a few efforts over 100m worth of barriers, good to see they haven't lost the magic!

Adidas Arriba distance spikes for the hurdles on the track, and then the Adidas Tempos for the speedwork on the grass, gripped quite nicely despite the wet grass

....but I managed a track session last night!! Did a reasonable week of running last week including a 45 minute run on Sunday in glorious sunshine. Steady 5 miler on Monday and attempted the club track session last night. 400m,800m,1km,800m,400m with 2 mins recovery between each rep, then a mile rep to finish. Ran ok throughout, obviously nothing quick but was just relieved to get through it, then finished with a 5.10 mile which was very pleasing!!

Sadly, my beloved Adizero Tempos have finally had their time as my foot was getting sore by the end of the session. They have served me well and have clocked up a decent mileage for such a light shoe. Will stick with the same shoe again as they have been so good.

Onwards and upwards, happy running

Back on track

Managed my first track session in 5 months last night, it wasn't pretty but I thoroughly enjoyed it! The session was 15 x 300m with 100m walkback recovery. I thought it might be wise to not do the full session, so opted for running two reps, then missing one.

Ended up doing 8 x 300m as I'm just not fit enough to do a full session yet, but thought I coped reasonably well and more importantly, the knee didn't give me too much grief. Averaged about 50-51 seconds but managed a healthy 48s on the last one!! You never lose the magic....

Hoping that this is now the springboard to getting back into full training, am getting out for 30 minutes several times a week just to try and build up the fitness. Got a warm weather training trip to Portugal in 3 1/2 weeks, can't wait for a bit of running in the sun.

Happy running

Back to square one

Thought I was starting to make progress after managing a few 15 minute runs without too much trouble. Tried joining in with the club on a Tuesday night session and lasted about 700m of the first rep before having to step off the track. Knee was starting to get very sore so thought it would be wise to stop straight away.

Back to square one then, doing lots of exercises to build up the strength around the knee to stop the kneecap from tracking out of line. Gutted is the word!! Hope everyone else is still running well, I will always be keen to hear how our customers are getting on?

Happy running

Steve
