You know you've had a tough track session when you feel really quite sick at the end of it! Starting to get fit now, ran 6 x 600m with 200m walk recovery in between in an average of 1.39.96 which was pleasing considering how windy it was down the back straight.
Managed a reasonable weeks training, approx 30 miles last week with my first race for 7 months on Saturday. Started off with a 400m hurdles in 61.2 seconds. Eased off after the final hurdle as I knew I wasn't going to catch anyone. Pleased with my return to steeplechase, 6.11 for 2km again with a strong wind down the home straight. Got a bit carried away on the first lap and suffered for it later on, but a good run.
County champs chase next Wednesday, rumours are that there will be a strong line-up, so I will have to think carefully about how to approach the race.
As I completed my run last night, I got thinking about what pace a steady run should be? I managed 6.45 miles in 39.50 minutes which works out at approx 6.10 minutes per mile, so is that steady, too slow or too fast? Obviously it depends on the standard each runner is at, but sometimes I'll do the same run over the golf course and feel like I'm flying and other times I'll feel terrible!
It's another run in the bank, 16 miles for the week so far with a tempo run scheduled for tonight. Nike Air Span Triax were the shoes of choice last night, they have never sold that well in the shop but I have had several pairs now and they work well for me.
Joined in with Lofty's speedwork session at the club last night, quite a good session.
We had 40 seconds to run to the first post, then jog back up the field. 38 seconds to run to the second post, then 36s to run to the third post, 34s to the fourth post and then a flat-out sprint to make the last post in 32 seconds, each with a jog recovery in between. Managed four sets of that, working hard but without pushing too much.
Nice to see so many down at the club and everyone was working hard. Ran in my Brooks Green Silence again despite being on grass, loving these shoes more every time I wear them. Steady run this evening and then a tempo on Thursday hopefully
I'm well and truly back into the swing of things, running-wise. Ran approx 28 miles last week and slowly going to build it up to about 35-40 per week. As I've missed too much of the winter endurance, I'm not going to be able to play catch up now so I've decided to concentrate on speed fo the track season.
Managed a speed session on Wednesday on my own, 5 mins of gentle running to warm up and then 30 minutes worth of 1 minute hard/1 minute easy around Plock Court, with 5 mins warm-down after. This is the type of session that gets me fit in previous years so I'm going back to what I know.
Popped down the track the next night and hit 8 x 200m with a 200m walk recovery, trying to run quickly but not flat out. Averaged 28.1s which is good enough at the moment. Hoping to return to this session in a months time and see the difference. Ran the session in Brooks Green Silence, my new racing flats which were surprisingly good. Quite a soft shoe but got me up on my toes well.
Gettiing better - Managed two laps of Robinswood Hill last night on the club run, worked hard up the hill the first time and then eased off to let the group catch up. The second lap I really hammered the hill and continued down the other side, stretched out over a minute to the rest of the group.
Really pleased with that, I do seem to have a habit of getting fit reasonably quickly but even I'm surprised by how well I'm going. Shouldn't tempt fate though.
6.5miles (22.5 for the week so far). Shoe of choice was the Nike Span Triax 7, a very under-rated shoe. Gives a firm feel initially but softens up quickly to give quite a bouncy ride.
