Learning the Basics of Rugby and Rugby GearLike American football, a game of rugby also employs an oval-shaped ball. However, it sets itself apart from the foreign version by having continuous play. This means that while a match is under way, there are no time-outs or substitutions. Its rules do not allow interference and forward passing. Thus, players can only gain ground by running with the ball or kicking it. Other featured moves include dribbling, lateral passing, and tackling. In the United Kingdom, there exist two types of rugby codes. First there is the rugby league which has a team composed of 13 members. It is defined as a full contact form of football played by two teams on a rectangular field. It is frequently cited as the most physically demanding team sport in the world. Its primary aim is to carry or kick the ball towards the opponent's goal line. Points can be scored by directing the ball to the ground. This moved is called a try. Once a team has scored a try, it is allowed to kick the ball unto the goal for further points. Then there is the rugby union, originating in England in the early 19th century. It is conducted on a level field with a grass surface. The field's dimensions can reach up to 100 metres (330 feet) long and 70 metres (230 feet) wide. An H-shaped goal stands at each end. The main distinction this type of football has is that it requires 15 players to form a team. Rugby gear is made up of clothing, footwear, and equipment created to protect the player from incurring any serious injury during the game. This consists of specialised and gloves, base layers worn under the shirt, rugby shorts, and head guards. |
