Gloucester Sports was established in 1982 as a specialist sports shop catering for a range of different sports. Current owners Steve and Lofty took over the business in January 2009 and have turned it into the running specialist for Gloucester and the surrounding areas. We do also specialise in rugby and cater for various other sports, stocking a wide range of footwear, clothing, accessories and injury supports.

 

From May 2019, we now offer an embroidery service, having purchased two single-head machines from our friends at Hudson & Co Sports. If you have one-off items or need a badge put on a team-kit, we can do this for you. Come in and speak to Ashley for any embroidery requests.

 

We also do PRINTING on t-shirts, tops and almost all types of clothing. Prices depend on what you need printing, how big, how many colours and how quickly it needs to be done! We can do Stag and Hen Do t-shirts, together with team kits and one-off items, for an accurate quote pop in and see us. As well as having our shop on Worcester Street, we take our mobile running shop to support many local events and races and have developed our online running web store.

 

Gloucester Sports offers the best choice in running shoes, sports nutrition, women's and men's running clothing, essential running accessories and much more. We don't often have sales, but if you have a limited budget then we will always try to you find something suitable as we normally have certain shoes on offer! So whether you are running your first ever 5k or London marathon or anything in between, we have everything you will need to enjoy your run.

 

Gloucester Sports was the first shop in Gloucester to use video gait analysis to ensure that we put each individual in the correct footwear for their requirements. All shop staff are well-trained and highly knowledgeable about all aspects of running.

 

Running shoe selection can be confusing so we divide our running shoes into various categories with neutral and stability shoes for road running, lightweight shoes for speed and performance plus multi terrain shoes for trail/uneven surface running. Our range of brands includes Adidas, Mizuno, Brooks, Saucony, New Balance, Hoka, On, Altra and several others.

 

Our trail running and natural motion footwear is ever expanding as the popularity grows, so if you want to discuss your biomechanical requirements with us then please come in for a chat. We offer a large range of clothing and compression wear from a good selection of brands, together with a changing room in-store so that you can try before you buy.

 

Sports nutrition is key to running the longer miles. All staff at Gloucester Sports are well trained and experienced in the large selection available. We use and recommend brands such as SIS, Tailwind, High 5, Clif, Sports beans and SaltStick. Gels, sports sweets, energy bars and drinks are always in stock.

 

Staff Profiles:

 

Steve is the store manager and carries out the majority of the gait analysis. He has a Masters in Sport and Exercise Science and spent five years working on behalf of Nike as a biomechanics and footwear specialist. A member of Gloucester AC, Steve runs and races at a competitive level, having won a UK Inter-Counties steeplechase title, seven British Masters titles and eleven senior regional titles, together with winning various local races including the May Hill Massacre, Chedworth 10, Cranham Boundary Chase, Berkeley 10km, Beacon 10km, Devil's Chimney Chase, Severn Bridge Night 5 Mile and the Angels 10km. Steve is a self-confessed shoe geek and his PB's are 5km: 14.58 and 10km: 31.39. In November 2017, Steve achieved a long-held ambition to represent his country as he was awarded his first England vest for the British Masters Home International XC Champs held in Derry, Northern Ireland.

Lofty is the resident shop coach, having gained his UK Athletics Level 3 coach award. Lofty has been running for over 25 years on the local scene and has run just about every race in the county (and beyond)! Lofty has also ventured into the Ultra Running scene, so can give advice on all aspects of endurance running. If you are into your trail running, Lofty is the man to speak to.

 

 

Ashley joined the team in May 2019, having worked at Hudsons for the past 15 years and is our embroidery specialist! A man of many talents, Ash is a great source of information on all the local football and rugby teams, having produced kit for most of them over the years. With a young family, Ash is trying hard to get back into a running routine but has started signing up for a few races to give him motivation to get out and run! In August 2021 he completed his first ever 24hour track race and covered a hugely impressive 78 miles!
